Garrett Muagututia, our new signing, showed up at the club's premises in Gezira to complete his transfer to Al Ahly.
The American player signed his contract in the presence of his new coach Mohamed Mselhy and Raouf Abdelkader, the club's director for sports activities.
We caught up with Muagututia to discuss his new journey in volleyball, representing his country in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, and his ambitions with the Masters.
“I am very excited to be here at Al Ahly. It is a well-known club and I cannot wait to start my journey with the Masters. Everything is great here; the club, the organization, the team and the coach.”
“This past summer has been great for me. I signed for Al Ahly and represented my country in the Olympic Games in Tokyo; to be an Olympian and to represent your country in such an event is a magnificent experience for me. However, the only thing that I missed was having the fans in the stands.”
“Playing in Africa is different from anything that I have experienced throughout my career. It is only my first days but so far so good. Training with the team has been awesome. The players are great and they are very welcoming to me.”
“I met some of my new teammates during the 2019 FIVB World Cup in Japan and by the way, it is a nice memory for me as my team won the bronze medal. I also met the team captains, Abdallah Abdelsalam and Ahmed Salah. The competitiveness between the players will help us get better together and individually. “
“The coach, Mohamed Mselhy, is a very nice person. He is very quiet but you can see that everyone respects him. He knows the game. He is very experienced and it is very nice to play for him.”
“My ultimate ambition is to win everything possible. I do not like to lose so I will do everything that I can to get better and help the team.”
“I would like to send a message to the club’s loyal fans that I will do my best to help the team. I hope that I can meet their standards and win titles here at the club.”
