Al Ahly achieved a 2-0 win over RS Berkane of Morocco at Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha to win the 7th CAF Super Cup title in history, extending our supremacy in the competition.
Two second-half goals from Mohamed Sherif and Salah Mohsen were enough for the Red Eagles to secure the prestigious title.
Al Ahly players were clinical in the second half of the game and had the upper hand to win the trophy for the seventh time in the club’s history, completing a fantastic quadruple in the 2019-2020 season and we still have the Egyptian Super Cup to play to achieve the fifth trophy of the campaign.
First Half
We did not need much time to show our desire of winning the Super Cup trophy and we had a clear chance to score after two minutes from the start but Mohamed Sherif failed to control the ball inside the opponent’s box.
Six minutes later, Hussein El Shahat received the ball, dribbled two defenders and passed the ball to Aliou Dieng but his shot went over the bar.
The Moroccan team had a chance to score when Mohamed Farhan received a sensational pass from Mouhcine Iajour but his chip missed the target.
Seconds before half-time, RS Berkane missed the first half’s most dangerous chance when their defender’s header went wide despite being in a brilliant position to score.
Second Half
Everything changed at half-time and our players raised their game in the second half, which started with two half-time substitutions as Ali Maaloul and Ramy Rabia replaced the Yellow-carded Ayman Ashraf and Yasser Ibrahim.
Our slow build-up of the first half changed completely in the second half and we started to deliver efficient quick passes between the lines of RS Berkane.
We needed just seven minutes to open the score by our striker, Mohamed Sherif.
Sherif received a beautiful pass from Hussein El Shahat, controlled the ball, shielded it and turned, firing a low shot that found the back of the net.
The goal forced the Moroccan team’s defenders to come out of their area which opened spaces in their defense.
Our head coach Pitso Mosimane used his bench again in the 67th minute as our in-form winger Salah Mohsen entered the pitch instead of El Shahat.
Mohsen was our hero again and killed the game with an individual effort.
Salah received an amazing pass from Taher and dribbled the goalkeeper to put the ball inside the empty net, extending our lead in the game.
The minutes went by and our players controlled the tempo of the game, which ended with a 2-0 win for the Red Eagles.
