Al Ahly defeated AS SONIDEP 1-0 at Général Seyni Kountché Stadium in the first leg of the CAF Champions League round of 32.
The Red Eagles started the game with a frontline pressure, as were seeking to score the opening goal in the game.
The game was stopped during its early minutes due to the injury of our player Akram Tawfik. In the 12th minute, AS SONIDEP’s Mamado, picked up the first yellow card in the game, giving us a free kick, which we missed.
In the 18th minute, our player Aliou Dieng got a yellow card after a late challenge against one of the opponent’s player.
We missed another scoring chance in the 25th minute, as Yasser missed Beckham’s dangerous cross.
In the 30th minute, our forward Mohamed Sherif was injured after going into a tough challenge with AS SONIDEP’S player, but Sherif continued the game normally.
After three minutes, Dieng’s strike gave us the lead, while in the 37th minute, our captain Mohamed El Shenawy was needed as he blocked a strong shot away from our net.
The second half started with a great scoring opportunity for us, as Benoun’s header hit the bar to keep the game 1-0.
The Red Eagles kept the pressure to score the second goal, but AS SONIDEP’S defense kept all our attempts away.
The 52nd minute witnessed another scoring chance for us, as Sherif’s header was saved by the goalkeeper.
We made the first substitute in the 64th minute, as Salah Mohsen joined the game instead of Kahraba.
Mohsen had an impact on the game only after 2 minutes of his entrance, as his header was blocked once again by the opponent’s goalkeeper in the 66th minute.
We kept our pressure on the team to add another goal, but once again we missed the net as the goalkeeper blocked Sherif’s shot.
In the 80th minute, we made another two substitutions as Geraldo and Ahmed Rayan joined the game instead of Taher and Sherif.
The game went on and the referee blew his final whistle to declare our first win in the 2020-2021 CAF Champions League.
