Al Ahly basketball ladies were crowned champions of Cairo League on Wednesday night after defeating Gezira 77-55 in the final. 

It was a long road towards the title but our team was determined to clinch the competition’s title to please Al Ahly fans.

The journey started against Al Nasr as our team had a strong start to the competition and won the match 69-6. 

Our ladies defeated El Ghaba 86-30 in the second round before defeating Al Zohour to reach the quarter-finals.

In the quarter-finals, our ladies defeated Wadi Degla 65-13 in the first leg while the second leg ended with a 70-23 victory for the Red Eagles.

In the semi-finals, our ladies faced Heliopolis in a tough encounter. The Red Eagles won the first leg in February 67-56 but the competition was halted in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The competition resumed in November and our team suffered a 95-93 loss in the second leg of the semi-finals and our ladies were forced to play a decisive match to determine the team that will reach the final.

The decisive match was played at the Martyrs’ Hall at home and our ladies managed to overcome the challenges and won the match 83-57 to book a place in the final.

We faced Gezira in the final and won the competition after dominating the game from the start to the end to win the title in style. 

Our ladies, led by Ali Hashem, added the Cairo League title to the Egyptian League title and the Super League title, that we won last season.
