Today marks the return of The Red Eagles. A moment we've all been anticipating since the end of last season. Our team's journey in the new season kicks off in Nairobi as we face Kenya's Gor Mahia, at Nyayo National Stadium at 3:00 PM (Cairo Time).
Marcel Koller's squad aims for a strong start to the season and achieve a good result in the first leg of the CAF Champions League round of 32 before hosting the Kenyan side in the return leg in Cairo.
Our team holds the record for the most CAF Champions League titles, having lifted the trophy twelve times. The most recent being last season's victory over Tunisia's Esperance in a final that Cairo will long remember after we managed to defend our title in the competition again.
Al Ahly have never won the title in three consecutive seasons, and this is the new challenge for Marcel Koller and the team in a season full of challenges for the club.
Today's match will see Al Ahly's debut in their new kit, with the team wearing red. This match will also mark the first appearance of several new signings.
During our flight from Cairo to Nairobi, we had the opportunity to speak with our new player Yahia Attiyat Allah and our goalkeeper Hamza Alaa. Both discussed the importance of a strong start to the competition.
Yahia Attiyat Allah:
"We had many training sessions in Cairo before traveling to Nairobi and we're ready for the match, despite its difficulty, especially as it's at the beginning of the journey. It's known that the beginnings are always difficult, but Al Ahly have the experience needed to overcome all difficulties."
Hamza Alaa:
"The CAF Champions League is both strong and difficult, and we are the title holders. All teams seek to perform well against the champion, therefore we must redouble our efforts to retain the title."
