A five-star performance in Egyptian Premier League opener

Alahly, Egyptian Premier League, Football

The Red Eagles kicked off their Egyptian Premier League journey on Saturday night with a fantastic 5-2 victory over Ceramica Cleopatra.

Marcel Koller's men secured their first win this season thanks to five goals

Hussein El Shahat broke the dealdlock just four minutes into the game with a stunning strike to give the Red Eagles an early lead.

Although our opponents responded with an equalizer from the penalty spot in the 24th minute, the Reds quickly regained control and just before halftime, Wessam Abou Ali, our Palestinian striker, restored Al Ahly’s lead with a free kick, making it 2-1.

The second half was even more exciting as Wessam scored his second goal of the night with an incredible header after a perfect pass from Taher Mohamed Taher, extending our lead to 3-1.

The Reds didn’t stop there, as El Shahat found the back of the net again after a magical pass from Emam Ashour. Taher then added his share, putting the icing on the cake with the fifth goal for the Eagles.

Ceramica Cleopatra managed to pull one goal back late in the game, though the goal was initially questioned for offside before VAR confirmed it.

The Reds’ impressive performance ensured they walked away with three points, marking a fantastic start to their Egyptian Premier League campaign.

Wessam Abou Ali was named Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.

Post-match reactions

Marcel Koller

“I’m very happy with the win tonight, we started the match well and scored the opening goal, but I felt the first half was the worst since I've been here. Mohamed El Shennawy was exceptional today, making crucial saves at critical moments. I am also pleased with Taher Mohamed Taher’s performance and his goal tonight.”

Wessam Abou Ali

“We deserved the win and were really good, especially in the second half. My main focus is on helping the team win rather than on scoring goals, as the team’s success is what truly matters.”

“While I hope to finish as the top scorer, I also feel joy when my teammates score, and I encourage them to keep finding the net.”
