We are set to face our rivals Zamalek SC in tonight’s derby in the CAF Champions League final.
Today’s derby will be the first in the CAF Champions League final, but the story has already started long ago when we faced each other 8 times in the African competition.
The Red Eagles faced Zamalek SC in different rounds of the competition, as we played against them in 8 African derbies.
Al Ahly clinched the win in 5 times; while we held 3 draws none of them were goalless.
We succeeded to keep the clean sheet for 2 times during the previous derbies, while 8 of our players succeeded to score 15 goals in Zamalek’s net.
Our former forward Emad Meteb managed to score Al Ahly’s first goal against Zamalek SC in the African tournament being the one who started our 15-goals record, while the last goal was scored by the former player Ahmed Fathy.
Also, we set another record as our previous players Mohamed Barakat and Mohamed Abou Trika are the top scorers of the derbies in Africa. Each of them has scored 4 goals.
This clash started after we met them in the CAF Champions League semi-final in 2005 for the first time, as we succeeded to defeat Zamalek SC 2-1 in the away game, and the goals were scored by Barakat and Meteb.
We also won the home game by an impressive brace from our brilliant winger Mohamed Barakat.
The third and fourth games were played in 2008 as we faced them in the group stage. Al Ahly won the first game 2-1 as the goals were scored by Flavio and Ahmed Hassan, while we held a 2-2 draw by our Iconic players Abou Trika and Flavio.
We met them again in 2012 in the group stage also. Al Ahly won the first game as a result of Abou Trika’s header, while we held a 1-1 draw against them in the second game by Barakat.
For the second consecutive year, Al Ahly met Zamalek in the group stage also in 2013.
We held a 1-1 draw against them in the first game when Abou Trika scored his goal from the penalty spot, while we dominated the second game and defeated Zamalek SC 4-2 after an impressive performance and goals by Ahmed Abdelzaher, our veteran Walid Soliman, Abou Trika, and Ahmed Fathy.
