Al Ahly’s football first-team assistant coach, Sami Komsan spoke ahead of our upcoming match against AS SONIDEP in the first leg of the CAF Champions League round of 32.
Komsan stated that the team has a strong ambition to win the CAF Champions League title for the tenth time, especially after winning last year’s competition.
“Our first step to win the CAF Champions League title begins in Niger where we will face AS SONIDEP. This match is just as important as any other match and we are focused to win it.”
Additionally, Komsan highlighted the role of our manager, Pitso Mosimane who didn’t travel with the team to Niger after testing positive for COVID-19.
“Coach Mosimane is in constant contact with the rest of the coaching staff and follows our training sessions in great detail.”
“The team trained well on Monday in Niamey and everything is going as planned. Although we are missing several players due to different reasons, but we have complete faith in our squad for Wednesday’s match against AS SONIDEP.”
"We are used to play on these types of grounds, as Al Ahly players can deal with any kind of stress, especially during the away games."
"We are in continual communication with our injured players and those who were infected by COVID-19 which forced them not to join our team's squad in Niger."
Moreover, Komsan added that our coaching staff managed to watch several matches for AS SONIDEP in order to highlight their strengths and weaknesses.
Lastly, Komsan thanked the club’s board of directors, headed by our President Captain Mahmoud El Khatib for providing the team with a private plane to ease the team's trip to Niger.
