Being the most successful club in the CAF Champions League’s history was never an easy road. Winning nine CAF Champions League titles requires more than having a good team of talented players, it requires character, consistency, and magicians who are able to deliver whenever they are needed.
Throughout history, our players have scored many amazing goals, which will live in the hearts of our supporters for years to come.
When it comes to picking our best goals in the CAF Champions League final, there are so many that we could recall.
Therefore, we came up with a shortlist of nine of our best goals that we scored in the CAF Champions League final.
Heading all the way back to 1982 when we faced Ghana’s Asante Kotoko in the CAF Champions League final, Mahmoud El Khatib, our president, guided us to win our first title, thanks to his heroic performance and staggering goals.
After scoring a brace in Cairo, El Khatib kept his impressive performance in the second leg in Kumasi. Known for his predatory instincts and clinical finishing ability, it was normal for El Khatib to score one of the most impressive goals in the CAF Champions League’s history.
El Khatib received a sensational pass from Mokhtar Mokhtar, then our winger, and dribbled past two defenders, before smashing the ball into the bottom corner.
Thanks to El Khatib’s marvelous effort, we managed to celebrate our first CAF Champions League trophy after defeating Asante Kotoko 4-1 on aggregate.
After having a goalless draw against Sudan’s Al Hilal at Khartoum Stadium in the first leg, we needed to achieve a victory in the second leg of the CAF Champions League final to clinch our second African trophy.
Being one of the fiercest strikers to have ever played for Al Ahly, Ayman Shawky was ready to put his name on the scoring sheet of the prestigious event.
Having a 1-0 lead following an own goal from Al Hilal’s player, we needed to double the score to clinch our favorite trophy once again and Ayman Shawky was there to leave his mark on the final.
Before the referee blew the half-time whistle, Shawky fired a header directly into the back of the net to score the second goal, helping the Eagles secure our second CAF Champions League title.
Strong right-foot, combined with an unbelievable pace, made Khaled Bebo, the current head of the club’s youth sector, one of the best strikers who ever wore the red jersey.
Bebo managed to score three of his best goals against South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the 2001 CAF Champions League final, but the third goal was a pure class.
After scoring a brilliant brace, Bebo kept searching for a hat-trick and he finally was able to achieve his target in the dying minutes of the game.
Receiving the ball in the opposition’s final third, Bebo nutmegged Sundowns’ defender and sprinted his way up to their goal. With a sensational touch, he delivered the ball into the bottom corner to be our first and only player to net a hat-trick in the CAF Champions League final. Simply, magnificent!
Taking the lead with two goals at Military Academy Stadium in the CAF Champions League final was great, but it was not the only impressive moment on that sensational night.
Graceful, elegant, versatile; three words that perfectly describe Mohamed Barakat.
Barakat’s pace and technical abilities were unbelievable and it can be reflected in the goal which he scored against Tunisia’s Etoile du Sahel in the second leg of the 2005 CAF Champions League final.
After receiving the ball on the left side, Barakat dribbled Etoile’s defender, and from the edge of the box, he fired a marvelous shot that hit the upper corner of the goal to declare a 3-0 victory for the Red Eagles.
The 2006 CAF Champions League final is a beautiful tale that we always want to speak about. A special occasion always needs a special person to deliver, and Mohamed Aboutrika was the hero of that night.
The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw against Tunisia’s CS Sfaxien at Cairo International Stadium, so we needed to fight to turn over the result at Rades Stadium.
All our attempts in the second leg were blocked by CS Sfaxien’s players in the ninety minutes of the match. Being on the verge of losing the title in Rades, Aboutrika appeared when it mattered the most and sent a scorching volley from outside the box into the back of the net; handing us our fifth African title in an astonishing way.
After reaching the CAF Champions League final for the third consecutive time, it was the perfect occasion for Flávio Amado, our legendary striker, to add another impressive goal to his tally with Al Ahly.
Having a 1-0 lead in the first leg of the 2008 CAF Champions League final, Flavio netted an impressive goal using his favorite way to score.
Flávio jumped in the box and blasted an incredible header in an unorthodox way, guiding us to a 2-0 victory in the first leg, which later helped us secure the title.

We were held to a 1-1 draw against Tunisia’s Esperance in Alexandria in the first leg of the 2012 CAF Champions League final.
As a result, the second leg was a must-win for the Reds in order to clinch Al Ahly’s seventh African title.
After taking the lead before the end of the first half, thanks to Mohamed Nagy Gedo’s goal, we kept pushing forward to double the score.
Our second moment came in the 61st minute, when Walid Soliman, our current winger, received the ball from Gedo, and then dribbled past Esperance’s defender firing a crucial shot that found the bottom of the net to make the result 2-0.

We faced South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the 2013 CAF Champions League final and the first leg was played at Orlando Stadium in Soweto.
After less than 15 minutes into the game, we were awarded a free-kick outside of the box. Mohamed Aboutrika stood behind the ball, preparing himself to score a masterpiece against the South African team.
Calmly running towards the ball, Aboutrika then pulled up a well-crafted shot that passed next to the wall and went straight into the upper right corner of the opposition’s goal.
Aboutrika’s goal was crucial to the Reds, as it helped the team secure a 1-1 draw away from home before winning 2-0 in the second leg and sealing the eighth CAF Champions League title in the history of the club.
We took a while to win our ninth African title, but winning it with a beautiful goal in the last minutes of the game against your arch-rivals made the waiting worthy.
Facing Zamalek SC, in the CAF Champions League final, can be considered a once-in-a-lifetime event.
We were held to a 1-1 draw and the game was heading towards extra time, and that was when Mohamed Magdy Afsha’s moment came.
Waiting outside the box, a poor clearance found Afsha, whose fresh clinical right foot was ready to fire a staggering screamer that hit the back of the net.
That late goal was enough for us to reach the podium and created one of the greatest nights in our history.
