El Shenawy: Defeating AS Vita Club is the First Step towards the Tenth African Title

First Team, CAF Champions League, Football

Al Ahly captain, Mohamed El Shenawy expressed his happiness after our 3-0 victory over DR Congo’s AS Vita Club on Tuesday at Stade des Martyrs in Matchday 4 of the CAF Champions League group stage.

El Shenawy made many crucial saves during the match and managed to keep a clean sheet away from home.

El Shenawy discussed the precious win and the difficulties that surrounded the game between Al Ahly and the Congolese side.

“We were held to a 2-2 draw against AS Vita Club in Cairo after missing many clear chances. That draw complicated our situation in the group and that was not acceptable for us."

“We held several meetings and vowed to overcome this difficult situation by achieving the victory in DR Congo.”

“Before traveling to DR Congo, we were aware of our situation and that we must get the three points to continue our journey in the competition.”

"The game was held in very hot weather, high humidity, and on an artificial turf, however, we managed to score three goals and secure an important victory away from home."

“Also, our head coach Pitso Mosimane exerted great effort with us to overcome this difficult situation.”

“The victory over AS Vita Club is the first step in our journey to win the tenth African title. We still have two difficult games against Al Merrikh SC in Sudan and Simba SC at home and we will fight to win them and secure a spot in the quarter-finals."

“We celebrated after the match but now our attention turns to the upcoming challenges. We aim to win more titles in the future to please our fans, who always support us.”
