The Red Eagles Reach CAF Champions League Final

Alahly, CAF Champions League, Football

Al Ahly marched into the CAF Champions League final for the third consecutive time and the 15th time in the club’s history and we are 90 minutes away from our third straight Champions League title.

We were held to a 2-2 draw in Algeria and managed to book a place in the final thanks to the 4-0 win at home in the first leg.

We will face Wydad Casablanca of Morocco in the competition’s final.

First Half
Pitso Mosimane, our head coach, made one change to his side that defeated the Algerian team in the first leg as Mohamed Abdelmonem replaced Ayman Ashraf in the defense.

The Red Eagles made a dream start as Ahmed Abdelkader put us in front after a beautiful 1-2 with Percy Tau, slotting an angled shot past the goalkeeper.

This lead made our mission easier in Algeria and we started to get more confidence and have more control over the game.

In the dying minutes of the first half, Ahmed Kendouci rifled a strong shot to the top corner to get his team a draw before half-time.

Second Half
We had a slow start in the second half and Taher Mohamed Taher was booked after a late challenge against the Algerian defender.

The home team took the lead by Riad Benaiad’s strong shot in the 61st minute and since then the home team’s performance was markedly improved and Mohamed El Shenawy was required to stop the Algerian attempts.

Mosimane made many changes in his team. Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Ramy Rabia joined the game instead of Abdelkader and Hussein El Shahat.

The match’s tempo was slower in the last 20 minutes and our players were trying to avoid conceding goals or getting any injuries.

Mosimane made another two changes as Taher and Aliou Dieng were substituted and replaced by Mohamed Sherif and Ahmed Nabil Koka.

In the last minute of the game, Mohamed Sherif secured the draw for the Red Eagles.

Sherif made a clever run behind the defense to collect a defense-splitting pass from Tau and finish from a tight angle to secure a 2-2 draw.

The Red Eagles have a chance to be the first African team ever to win the Champions League title in three straight seasons.
