Kahraba's goal secures our place in the AFL semi-finals

Alahly, African League, Football

A beautiful finish from Mahmoud Kahraba that followed a landmark cross from Ali Maaloul was behind our only goal against Simba SC on Tuesday night as the game finished in a 1-1 draw, sending the Red Eagles to the semi-finals of the AFL.

Our men benefited from a 2-2 draw in the first leg in Tanzania to reach the semi-finals.

The match saw the return of Mohamed Abdelmonem and Maaloul who missed the first game while Anthony Modeste joined the game in the last minutes, replacing Kahraba.

It was a tough match against a strong opponent who had the lead in the game thanks to a counter attack in the second half. The ball touched Sadio Kanoute's header and into the net to give the visitors the lead against the run of play.

Our players missed many clear chances during the match and it was obvious that we are not enjoying our best day at Cairo Stadium.

However, a few minutes after the Tanzanian team taking the lead, Kahraba was in the perfect place to meet Ali Maaloul's perfect cross to equalize the score.

As we celebrated our two goals in the first leg, our players raised the victory sign, in a show of solidarity with the people of Palestine.

Marcel Koller's men will face the winner between Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa and Petro Atletico of Angola, who will meet tonight in the second leg in South Africa, with the home team having a 2-0 first leg advantage.

The Red Eagles will play the first leg away from home on Sunday before playing the second leg at home on Wednesday.
