Al Ahly have appointed Danish tactician Jess Thorup as head coach of the senior football team on a two-and-a-half-year contract.
The 55-year-old’s appointment follows a meeting between club president Mahmoud El-Khatib, the Planning Committee, and the sporting director.
Thorup has previously won the Danish Superliga twice, with FC Midtjylland in 2017 and FC Copenhagen in the 2021-22 season.
He also guided Denmark’s Under-21 national team to the UEFA European Championship semi-finals and qualification for the Olympic Games, marking the team’s first Nations League appearance in 20 years.
Al Ahly had been searching for a permanent coach following the appointment of interim manager Emad El Nahas last month.
