Al Ahly coach Thorup rues missed chances in Petrojet draw
Al Ahly coach Jess Thorup expressed frustration after his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Petrojet in their Egyptian Premier League clash at the Military Academy Stadium on Wednesday.
The Danish coach said his players squandered several scoring opportunities that could have secured all three points for the defending champions.
Despite dominating possession early on, Al Ahly failed to create clear chances and were forced to settle for a draw in the 12th round of the league.
“We created several opportunities, especially in the last 60 minutes, but we failed to capitalize on them effectively,” Thorup said after the match.
“Football is measured by goals, which come from creating chances. We tried multiple times, with Taher Mohamed Taher playing up front along with Nejc Gradisar, but we only managed to score once,” he added.
Thorup said his halftime instructions focused on improving the team’s rhythm and pressing higher up the pitch.
“We put a lot of pressure on them, which was positive, but in the end, we couldn’t turn our chances into goals,” he said.
