Al Ahly’s senior football team will look to extend their winning streak in the Egyptian Premier League when they face Smouha in the third matchday at Cairo International Stadium on Thursday at 8 p.m. CLT (1700 GMT).
The Red Eagles opened their Egyptian Premier League campaign with a 3-2 win over Al Sharqiya Enppi on the opening matchday before beating ZED FC 2-0 in the second round.
Al Ahly have faced Smouha 31 times in the league since the Alexandrian side were promoted to the Egyptian Premier League in the 2010-11 season.
Al Ahly won 18 of those matches, while Smouha won four, with the teams drawing nine times.
The new season will retain last season’s format, with some modifications.
The 20 participating teams will compete in a single-round first phase, with each side playing 19 matches.
The top six teams will then advance to a Championship Group, while the remaining 14 will compete in a Relegation Group, with four teams set to be relegated.
