Al Ahly men’s handball crowned African champions for third straight year

Al Ahly’s men’s handball team claimed their third consecutive African Handball Championship title with a commanding 31–20 win over Morocco’s Montada Derb Sultan in the final on Monday.

The victory marks Al Ahly’s eighth continental crown, adding to previous triumphs in 1985, 1993, 1994, 2012, 2016, 2023, and 2024.

The defending champions dominated from the outset, taking a 17–8 lead into halftime and maintaining control throughout the second half to seal a convincing win and reinforce their position as Africa’s premier club.

The match was played at the Mohammed V Hall in Casablanca at 20:00 Cairo local time (GMT+2), as Morocco hosts the 46th edition of the continental tournament, which runs from 11 to 20 October.

The Red Eagles advanced to the final with a flawless record, topping their group with victories over Ethiopia’s Mekelle 70 (41–11), Ivory Coast’s Red Star (29–12), DR Congo’s JSK (29–19), and Rwanda’s Police HC (55–20).

They went on to defeat Benin’s Flowers (43–22) in the quarterfinals and eased past Cameroon’s FAP (37–14) in the semifinals.
