Al Ahly reach semifinals of International U-16 Cup

Al Ahly’s U-16 team booked their place in the semifinals of the International U-16 Cup after beating Right To Dream Academy on penalties in Saturday’s quarter-finals.

The match ended goalless in regular time before Al Ahly prevailed 6-5 in the shootout.

The hosts will face Portugal’s Sporting CP in Sunday’s semifinal. Sporting also advanced on penalties after defeating Tunisia’s Esperance.

South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns reached the last four as well, overcoming Kazakhstan FA in a penalty shootout. They will play Ukraine’s Ruch Lviv, who beat Egypt’s ZED FC 2-0 in their quarter-final.

The tournament, hosted at Al Ahly’s Nasr City branch, runs from 28 to 30 November and featured 18 youth teams from leading clubs worldwide.

Organised in cooperation with Al Ahly Football Company and Live Adventure, the event includes three groups of six teams.

Each team played five round-robin matches, with the top two in each group and the two best third-placed sides advanced to the quarter-finals.

The knockout stage determined the semifinalists, followed by the final and a third-place playoff.

All matches are played on full-size natural grass pitches, with each game consisting of two 20-minute halves.
