Al Ahly Send An Official Letter To EHF Explaining the Club’s Decision Regarding The Resumption of Last Season’s Campaign
Al Ahly sent an official letter to the Egyptian Handball Federation, EHF, on Thursday, disagreeing with EHF’s decision to continue the 2019-2020 handball campaign with last season's squad.
The club clarified to the EHF that such a decision isn’t logical and contradicts the international and domestic rules and regulations. Moreover, such a decision doesn’t achieve equality between all clubs.
In our letter to the EHF, we stressed the following points:
- EHF announced in an earlier meeting with the representatives of the clubs, after the outbreak of the COVID-19, that they will not resume the Egyptian League and the Egyptian Cup. Moreover, Al Ahly was the only club at the time to object such a decision.
- On the 16th of September, 2020 EHF met with the representatives of all clubs once again and decided to resume the season with the new players that are registered by the clubs; allowing the competition to be continued with the new squads.
- EHF announced once again that they will resume the 2019-2020 season but this time with the old squads without explaining why they took such a decision. Then, Al Ahly sent an official letter to the EHF on the 19th of November, 2020 explaining how such a decision doesn’t achieve equality between all clubs. Until now, the club didn’t receive any official response from the EHF.
- Moreover, continuing last season’s campaign with players from the old squad contradicts all rules and regulations as several players left the club either through being released, sold, or by going on loan. Additionally, the new season started with new rules and new players. For example, seven players left Al Ahly and were replaced by six new players.
- In addition to that, continuing the 2019-2020 campaign with the old squads means that all the newly joined players will return back to their old clubs in order to continue the previous season. Is that logical? How will it be implemented? How will the clubs allow their newly joined players to return back to their old teams? What if the players who were sold went to play abroad? What if the players who were registered in last season’s squad were requested by their current clubs in order to play abroad in another competition? What if the new signings return back and get injured while playing for their old clubs?
- Moreover, the technical organization which is responsible for moderating the new season didn’t state that it will continue the old season with either the new or old squad. Also, the same organization didn’t include any official clause stating that clubs are allowed to recall the players who were registered in last season’s squad to continue the 2019-2020 campaign.
Finally, Al Ahly welcomed the idea of continuing last season’s campaign with the new squads in order to achieve equality between all clubs. The club reserves the right to take the necessary actions in order to preserve Al Ahly’s technical and moral rights.
