Al Ahly to hold WBLA 2025 opening ceremony on Friday

Al Ahly SC will host the opening ceremony of the 29th Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) on Friday, launching the tournament that runs from 4 to 15 December.

Club president Mahmoud El Khatib and members of the board will attend the event.

The club invited Youth and Sports Minister Ashraf Sobhi; FIBA Africa President Anibal Manave; Egyptian Olympic Committee President Yasser Idris; Egyptian Basketball Federation President Amr Moselhy; and ambassadors of the participating nations.

Hosting the event underscores its commitment to supporting continental competitions and bolstering the profile of Egyptian and African sport.

The tournament draw is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Fikry Abaza Hall at the club’s Gezira headquarters.

Board member Mohamed El Garhy, who heads the organising committee, is due to attend alongside deputy committee chairs Ibrahim Elamry and Roweida Hesham, tournament director Khaled El Awady, and representatives of the competing clubs.
