Mahmoud El Khatib, Al Ahly’s President, attended on Tuesday the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace ceremony held by the Federation of Sports and Youth Associations in the presence of Dr.Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sport.

Minister Sobhy was keen to honor Al Ahly’s President during the ceremony as well as honoring other respectable Egyptian sports figures.

In his speech, El Khatib expressed his happiness to take part in such an event, while he also thanked Minister Sobhy, all the participants, and guests for attending the ceremony.

Moreover, Al Ahly’s President revealed his gratitude for having such a ceremony in Egypt, which comes in time with several other prestigious events that are organized by the Egyptian government, headed by President Abdelfattah El Sisi.

“I am happy to speak about the importance of sports in societies, especially that I am an athlete. Also, the fact that today is an international day celebrated by the United Nations further reflects the role of sports and athletes in different communities.”

“Sports are considered to be one of the major keystones that a society needs in order to establish key principles within its population. Moreover, it is also an important element that acts upon diminishing several negative aspects in any community. Also, sports could lead to building traits and habits such as: determination, forgiveness, and modesty.”

“In addition to that, sports are also an important tool which helps in boosting the economy of different countries. That is something we cannot neglect, and we work together in Egypt in order to further develop that objective.”

“I call upon everyone who is involved in the sports sector in Egypt to follow the sports charter and fair play.”

On a different note, El Khatib acknowledged the efforts of all the athletes who have any kind of disability but still insist on playing sports despite facing difficult circumstances.

Finally, El Khatib concluded his speech by hoping that sports continue to spread peace and tranquility between people of different societies; as well as wishing all the best for the Egyptian sports community.
