Handball: Al Ahly lose to Barcelona in the Club World Championship semifinal

Barcelona defeated Egypt’s Al Ahly 26-21 in the semifinals of the 2025 IHF Men’s Club World Championship at the New Administrative Capital Arena on Tuesday.

Al Ahly reached the last four after a dominant 41-14 win over Australia’s Sydney Uni in the group stage, before losing to defending champions Veszprém HC.

The Egyptian side made headlines at the 2024 edition when they became the first non-European club to beat Barcelona, going on to finish third.

This year marks Al Ahly’s sixth appearance at the tournament.

Their best result came in 2007, when they finished runners-up.

They also claimed third-place finishes in 2024 and 2025.

Al Ahly will face Germany’s SC Magdeburg in the third-place match on Thursday, 2 October.
