Thorup extols Al Ahly’s strong start in CAF Champions League group stage
Al Ahly head coach Jess Thorup expressed satisfaction with his team's performance after securing a 4-1 win over Algeria’s JS Kabylie in their opening CAF Champions League group-stage match at Cairo International Stadium on Saturday.
"We achieved our goal by winning the match," Thorup said at the post-game press conference.
"We deserved to win, and we could have scored more goals. There has been significant improvement in the players' performance across all aspects, and I’m pleased with the strong start we’ve made in the group stage," he added.
Thorup also emphasized the importance of teamwork and collective effort.
"We are one team, and mistakes are part of football. It’s unfair to single out one player for conceding a goal. We are always working to improve, and with the talented squad we have, we need everyone’s contributions. Every player played their part, whether they started or came on during the game," Thorup said.
The Danish coach singled out Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki for his impactful performance.
"The players showed great ability throughout the match, and Bencharki continues to perform exceptionally well, leaving a significant mark whenever he’s on the pitch," Thorup noted.
"Like any match, there are mistakes, but we are focused on fixing them in training. I’m happy to see so many talented players in the squad. Our goal is to continue improving and reach our full potential," he concluded.
