Volleyball: Coaching Al Ahly a great honor, I look forward to fans’ support – Mayforth
Gordon Mayforth, the newly appointed head coach of Al Ahly men’s volleyball team, expressed his delight at taking charge and pledged to give his all to secure titles in the coming season.
“Leading a prestigious club like Al Ahly is a tremendous honor,” Mayforth said.
“The club has millions of fans worldwide, which comes with great responsibility. I bring extensive coaching experience, including stints with the national teams of Greece and the United States, and I am very excited about this new challenge.”
The American coach added, “Al Ahly is the biggest club in Africa, not only in volleyball but across all sports. Winning is the only acceptable outcome; second place is not an option for us.”
Mayforth revealed he had watched many of Al Ahly’s matches last season and is currently following the Egyptian national team closely.
He has started finalizing his plans for the upcoming season, focusing on enhancing various aspects of the players’ performance.
“I have communicated with many players and the support staff. Everyone understands the expectation to win titles, especially the African championship, and to compete once again in the Club World Championship,” he said.
He stressed the importance of players embracing the club’s stature.
“There is no second place for us. Players must adopt a warrior mindset and be at their best physically and mentally during matches. I believe they fully grasp the need for readiness on the court.”
Mayforth described coaching Al Ahly not as pressure but as a significant opportunity.
“Wearing the Al Ahly badge every day is a chance to become the best in Egypt, Africa, and the world one day. I wish all our players representing Egypt in the World Championship the very best.”
He concluded with a message to the fans: “We, the men’s volleyball team at Al Ahly, feel your passion and desire for victory. We hope to deliver the success and trophies you expect. We look forward to your support in the stands.”
