Al Ahly’s women’s basketball team secured a spot in the final of the 2025 Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) after defeating Rwanda’s APR 85-74 in Saturday’s semifinals.
The tournament, which runs through 15 December, is being hosted by the Cairo-based club.
The game, held at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Hall, saw Al Ahly dominate from the start. The team finished the first quarter with a 30-19 lead, then extended their advantage to 50-34 by halftime.
They led 66-46 heading into the final period, before sealing the win with an 85-74 scoreline.
Al Ahly will face Mozambique’s Ferroviário Maputo in Sunday’s final, following Ferroviário’s victory over Senegal’s AS Ville de Dakar in the earlier semifinal.
The Red Eagles had topped Group A in the preliminary rounds, finishing with a perfect record, including wins over Côte d’Ivoire’s Friends Basketball Association, Rwanda’s REG, and Angola’s Sporting Clube de Luanda.
They secured their place in the semifinals with a commanding 98-55 win over DR Congo’s CNSS in Friday’s quarterfinals.
