Al Ahly ease past Ismaily 2-0 in Egyptian Premier League
Al Ahly secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Ismaily in their rescheduled Egyptian Premier League match at Alexandria’s Borg El Arab Stadium on Wednesday.
Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane opened the scoring in the 31st minute, capitalising on a defensive deflection inside the area to fire home from close range.
Yassin Marei doubled the lead two minutes before halftime, converting a deep cross from Achraf Bencharki to seal the win for the defending champions.
Al Ahly dominated from the outset and created several chances through Taher Mohamed Taher, Hussein El Shahat and Bencharki.
Aliou Dieng came close in the fifth minute with a powerful effort from outside the box that flew over the bar.
Ten minutes later, Bencharki threaded a precise pass into El Shahat inside the penalty area, but his shot with the inside of the foot drifted just wide of the post.
Ieltsin Camoes almost added a third on the stroke of halftime after being played through by Taher Mohamed, but goalkeeper Ahmed Adel blocked his effort.
The win lifts Al Ahly to 30 points, while Ismaily remain on 10.
