Al Ahly moved to the top of the Egyptian Premier League with a 1-0 victory over Smouha in the 19th round at Alexandria’s Borg El Arab Stadium on Sunday.
The win lifted Al Ahly to 36 points at the summit of the standings, while Smouha remained eighth on 25 points.
Marwan Othman scored the only goal of the game on the half-hour mark.
Smouha goalkeeper failed to deal with a shot from Youssef Belammri, allowing Othman to pounce on the rebound and fire home from close range.
Al Ahly were forced into an early substitution when defender Yassin Marei went off injured in the 18th minute, handing winter signing Hadi Reyad his first appearance of the season.
Al Ahly next face ZED FC in the 20th round of the league on 28 February.
