Al Ahly’s Thorup shows readiness for Egyptian Super Cup final against Zamalek
Al Ahly head coach Jess Thorup said his side are fully prepared for Sunday’s Egyptian Super Cup final against rivals Zamalek and called on fans to back the team in their quest for the title.
The eagerly awaited encounter is scheduled to kick off at 5:30 p.m. Cairo time (GMT+2) at Mohamed bin Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Thorup said: “We took an important step by beating Ceramica Cleopatra to reach the final. We fully understand what this historic matchup means to Al Ahly and its fans. We’re here to win the title and are eagerly waiting for our supporters’ backing to help us achieve victory.”
“We’re constantly evaluating and improving our performance. No team in the world plays without mistakes - the key is to learn from them and address them,” he added.
“Our attacking cohesion was excellent against Ceramica, and my philosophy relies on freedom of movement on the pitch. What matters most to me is the team’s collective performance,” the Danish coach said.
Thorup confirmed that all players are fit and ready for the match, noting that he will name his starting lineup after the team’s final training session later on Saturday.
“Nejc Gradisar played very well against Ceramica and managed to score. He was substituted only as a precaution due to fatigue,” Thorup said. “We also have players returning from injury, including Mohamed Sherif, who is close to full recovery.”
