Our head coach Pitso Mosimane spoke to France Football about fulfilling his dream of coaching Al Ahly and winning the treble in his first season. As well as talking about his thoughts and ambitions for the new season.

“It took me 24 hours to accept Al Ahly’s offer. I took the decision in the right moment after winning the treble with Mamelodi Sundowns.”

“I wanted a new challenge in a new country after 8 years with Mamelodi Sundowns. I have much respect for the club and the fans.”

“The opportunity that Al Ahly gave me after Rene Weiler’s departure was perfect for me. The fans’ reception also was incomparable. I have never been greeted like this in my life.”

“I arrived in Cairo and the league competition was not finished yet. We also had the CAF Champions League competition and after we won it we had the Egyptian Cup competition, which we won on penalties.”

“The new season starts on Sunday and we still have the CAF Super Cup. It is a strange feeling to play a game every three days as when you win such titles you usually take a break and go on vacation. But let’s be honest, the COVID-19 pandemic made this year strange and special.”

“There is a lot of pressure when you coach a big club like Al Ahly as it is normal to win the league title and the board always targets the treble every year, which we did this season.”
