Al Ahly player Akram Tawfik was very happy after making his first African debut with Al Ahly against AS SONIDEP in the first leg of the CAF Champions League round of 32.
Tawfik spoke about the team’s 1-0 victory over the Nigerien team, as the game was held at Général Seyni Kountché Stadium on Wednesday.
“In Al Ahly, we play as a unit and that was shown in our game against AS SONIDEP, as the players who participated in the match covered the absence of the injured players.”
“The pitch’s quality was very bad, but we succeeded to win the game thanks to the team’s great spirit.”
“Al Ahly is the defending champion, so all the teams will want to make a good result against us.”
“We are currently focused on this season’s title, especially after winning our opening game against AS SONIDEP in the 2020-2021 CAF Champions League.”
“We play with Al Ahly’s spirit which always appears in the hard times and it also puts on us more responsibility.”
“There is a great competition here in the team, and that is normal in a big club like Al Ahly. I played with Hamdy Fathy when we were at Ennpi. I do all my best during the training sessions and it is the coaching staff's decision whether I player or not."
“Our coaching staff always focuses on the players’ fitness levels, and this appeared obviously during the last period.”
Tawfik also spoke about the team’s competition in the Egyptian Premier League.
“In Al Ahly, we respect all our opponents and we are always motivated to win. Moreover, we also seek to defend our league title also this season.”
“We will do all our best in FIFA Club World Cup and we are able to meet the fans’ high expectations. Al Ahly is used on winning titles, so it is normal for us to be the champions.”
“I am happy to win all these titles with Al Ahly, and I hope to win more in the future. Also, I wish Momen Zakaria a speedy recovery and to return once again to the field as soon as possible.”
“Lastly, I would like to thank our beloved fans who were always supporting us and we will keep fighting on winning just to make them happy.”
