Thorup hails key win over Ceramica Cleopatra, eyes Egyptian Super Cup title
Al Ahly head coach Jess Thorup praised his team’s performance after their victory over Ceramica Cleopatra in the semi-finals of the Egyptian Super Cup, saying the goal from the outset was clear: ‘to reach the final and challenge for the title’.
“We achieved an important win against a strong and well-organized side,” Thorup told reporters after the match.
“We controlled the game for most of the time, except for the last ten minutes. Overall, we were the better team in possession and chance creation,” the Danish coach added.
“We delivered a strong performance. Big matches require big players, and today our defense showed great composure and quality. We’re constantly working on improving the players’ physical condition from one match to the next,” he said.
Thorup noted that the win would give his players a significant confidence boost.
“We scored two goals and saw everyone giving their best effort on the pitch,” he added.
Speaking about Slovenian forward Nejc Gradisar, Thorup said: “He played well but was substituted as a precaution due to fatigue. He’ll be ready for the final.”
“We’re used to pressure, both as a coaching staff and as players,” Thorup concluded. “Pressure is a motivation for success. Our goal now is to win the title, and we’ll keep working to improve our performance and reach the level we aspire to.”
