Victory over Zamalek reflects Al Ahly’s character: Salah Eldin

Al Ahly's director of football, Walid Salah Eldin expressed his delight following the team’s 2-1 win over arch-rivals Zamalek in the Cairo derby on Monday.

The match, held at Cairo International Stadium, was part of the ninth round of the Egyptian Premier League.

Salah Eldin praised the team's performance, describing it as a well-deserved and hard-fought victory.

He emphasized that the players displayed Al Ahly’s true character and high fighting spirit throughout the match.

“I congratulate the players, the fans, and the board on this important win. We secured it under extremely difficult circumstances, and at a time when we badly needed the three points,” Salah El-Din said.

“It was a strong performance worthy of Egyptian football, and we missed several chances that could have widened the scoreline,” he added.

He extended his congratulations to all players, including those who missed the game due to injury, stressing that the entire squad shares in the victory.

“Al Ahly is the strongest team in Africa. Our fans always stand behind us, and we have full confidence in their continued support for the players and coaching staff, as they always have in every situation,” he said.

With the victory, Al Ahly extended their dominance in league encounters against Zamalek, winning 51 of their 131 meetings. Zamalek have won 29 times, with 51 matches ending in draws.

Al Ahly's next fixture will be against Ismaillia Electricity in the 10th round of the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday, 4 October.
