Khaled Mortagy, Al Ahly's treasurer, raised the club’s concerns on the clash of dates between the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which is being held in Cameroon between 9 January and 6 February, and the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup (FCWC), which is set to start in the UAE on 4 February, to the organizing committee of the FIFA Club World Cup on Monday. 

Mortagy stressed that the club is affected by the FIFA Club World Cup dates, as the team will go to the competition without 9 of the team’s main players, who are currently participating in AFCON. 

Also, Mortagy added that the organizing committee did not put this issue into consideration when they decided the deadline to send the final squad for the teams participating in the FIFA Club World Cup.

Mortagy concluded that Al Ahly SC hoped for more coordination between FIFA and CAF to ensure the success of both competitions.
