Al Ahly coach Riveiro praises players after dominant win over Pharco FC
Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro lauded his players for their commanding 4-1 victory over Pharco FC in the second round of the Egyptian Premier League, highlighting their quick recovery following last week’s 2-2 draw in the season opener.
“We achieved an important victory today. We dominated the game against Pharco FC, and I thank the players for their effort,” Riveiro said at the post-match press conference.
The Red Eagles cruised to a 4-1 win on Friday, with Riveiro making several changes to the starting XI. Alio Dieng, Achraf Bencharki, Achraf Dari, and Karim Fouad all returned to the lineup after being benched in the 2-2 draw against Modern Sport.
“We are working to select the best lineup for each match, and the team is on the right track—achieving victories and pleasing the fans,” Riveiro added.
Al Ahly dominated the first half, with Mohamed Sherif scoring a brilliant header inside the area to give the hosts an early lead. Ahmed Sayed Zizo doubled the advantage in the 21st minute with another header, as Al Ahly went into halftime 2-0 up.
In the second half, Zizo completed his brace, scoring Al Ahly's third with a low-strike finish from inside the box, set up by a clever assist from Bencharki.
Substitute Gradisar sealed the win for Al Ahly in the 81st minute, scoring into an empty net after chasing down Pharco’s goalkeeper.
