Dr. Ahmed Abu Abla, head of Al Ahly’s medical staff, refused the return of Al Ahly players to the pitch due to the clashes which erupted between Esperance fans and the Tunisian police. 

Al Ahly players and match officials left the pitch during the warm-up as they were not able to breathe after the Tunisian Police fired gas bombs inside the stadium to control the situation.
