Riveiro vows to lift Al Ahly after draw with Ghazl El Mahalla
Al Ahly head coach Jose Riveiro has vowed to improve both results and performances after the defending champions were held to a goalless draw by Ghazl El Mahalla in the Egyptian Premier League on Monday.
Despite dominating possession and creating several chances, the Red Eagles failed to find the net in the fourth-round encounter, leaving them two points adrift of provisional leaders Al Masry.
“We will concentrate well in the coming games as we are working to improve both performance and results,” Riveiro said during his post-match press conference.
Al Ahly controlled large spells of the game but were unable to break down a resolute Mahalla defence.
“We tried to dominate the ball against a team with a well-organised defence, but we missed too many chances,” the Spanish coach added.
“We are not happy with the result. We aimed to win, but unfortunately, it didn’t happen,” he said.
The record champions sit on five points from three matches and will look to bounce back when they face Pyramids FC on Saturday, 30 August, in a key 5th round clash.
